The holy city of Ghom lies about 100 kilometres south of Tehran. Ghom carpets are one of the most impressive and valuable examples of fine Persian carpet art in the world. This ancient example is called Mirashrafi, after the gold coin that was used as currency during the Kajar period. A perfectly preserved example woven with cork wool.
