This carpet was hand-knotted in Central Persia. These high-quality carpets, with a long tradition dating back to the Safavid period, typically feature a medallion pattern on a floral ground, though variations do exist. Keshan carpets are found in many European courts. The city of Keshan was an important transit point due to its location between Isfahan and Tehran, on the Silk Road, not far from the great Dasht-e-Kavir desert.
